Reducing your workload by 15%...
How can AI in radiology best reduce radiologist workload?
9/2/20241 min read
Imagine trimming your team’s workload by over 15% just by letting AI take the first look. Would you trust the tech to flag what matters most?
A few weeks ago I read about a study in the American Journal of Roentgenology that found AI is most effective in lung cancer screening when used as a prescreener...
The study found that:
AI as a prescreener in low-dose CT lung cancer screening provided greater benefit than interpretation without AI.
When used as a prescreener, AI allowed radiologists to avoid interpreting 15.3% of exams, reducing their workload.
Using AI as an assistant increased the number of nodules identified.
Integrating AI as a prescreener could help reduce radiologist workload and potentially alleviate burnout, without compromising diagnostic accuracy.
The prescreener scenario also decreased mean interpretation times, 143 seconds vs. 164 seconds without AI.
